History of Kolli Hills:

These mountains were sometimes known as "Kolli Malai", the "Mountains of Death". The reason is that early literature records the existence of an image called Kollippavai on top of these hills. This image was believed to represent the spirit of a maiden who lured wayfarers by her beauty and then killed them.

a Tamil king who was renowned for his generosity and valour. Formed in the shape of an open square, these hills were also known as Chathuragiri, literally meaning square-shaped hills. Located at an ever-so-pleasant altitude ranging from 1000 to 1300 metres above mean sea level, Kolli hills enjoys a salubrious climate throughout the year.

Agaya Gangai Waterfalls:

The awe-inspiring 300 feet Agaya Gangai waterfall originating from the River Aiyaru is a must-see. Situated in close vicinity to Arapaleeswarar temple, you have scenic views of verdant woods on the hills on all sides. It is a perfect place to relax and unwind, to go trekking and hiking.

Arappaleeswar Temple:

One of the best-known temples on Kolli Hills, Arappaleeswar Temple is scenically located on the top of the hills and is decorated with numerous Tamil inscriptions belonging to the Chola period. It is said to have a hidden path that ends at the Shiva temple in Rasipuram, which was constructed by the ruler, Valvil Ori. This ancient temple is known to have been in existence during the Sangam age. The simple architectural style adds charm to the sanctity of the temple.

Botanical Garden:
The Botanical Garden is maintained by the government and has a large variety of local and regional plants. You will find a beautiful range of colourful flowers, medicinal herbs and plants. There is a pineapple research farm where hybrid species are grown.
Selur Nadu:
Visit the historical place at Selur Nadu where the benevolent King Pari gave his royal chariot to help and support a jasmine creeper grow. You can still see the ancient culvert at this spot.

Selur View Point:
One of the most panoramic spots on the Kolli Hills is the Selur viewpoint with clear views of the low-lying valley. It is a secluded place where you can hear the birds calling and the whisper of the breeze.
Siddhar Caves:

These ancient natural formations of the Siddhar caves were where the medicine sages once resided. Some of the caves are small and can accommodate only one or two people at any given time. Some people have chanced across mortars and stones that were used by these ancient medicine men. The nearby groves abound in medicinal herbs.

Tampcol Medicinal Farm:

As the Kolli Hills are known primarily for the wealth of medicinal herbs, the Tampcol Medicinal Farm was set up by the state government. Many medicinal herbs, roots and plants used in alternate medicine, Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha are grown here.

Masila Falls:

Masila Falls is your medium sized tiered waterfall that is set amidst the dense green forests of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills. It is an ideal location for the holidaying family and one of Kolli Hills' pretty spots.
